Dylan is a portrait of our family pet painted for my son.  The advantage of producing a portrait of your own pet is that you have a living model rather than being limited to a two dimensional photograph, Dylan was most helpful when required to pose even though I worked mainly from the photographic reference.   I did appreciate Dylan’s accommodating nature when it came to addressing his stance and the positioning of his legs.

The portrait was painted in a range of hard and soft pastels, then finally the level of detail was enhanced with blended layers of pastel pencil on a raw sienna coloured textured pastel board.

Dylan is a rescue cross-breed from Wales, mainly Beagle by looks and nature!  When this portrait was produced he was three years old, he is due shortly to celebrate his thirteenth birthday.

Unfortunately, although Dylan did indeed celebrate his thirteenth birthday, he fell ill just before his fourteenth birthday during March 2012 and is sorely missed by the whole family.
