A commissioned pastel portrait of Monty the horse who unfortunately had to be put down shortly after the painting was completed due to a  fractured  shoulder.

The image was produced on bluish grey pastel board using hard and soft pastels in a range of rich brown and red hues.  Intricate details such as the plait work  in the bridle were duplicated using sharpened pastel pencils and small broken pieces of handmade pastel.

The background effect was acheived by blending the pastels by hand to give broad sweeping movements representing the sky.
