This coloured pencil portrait was developed from a small image taken from a magazine for my own interest.  I wanted to develop the contrasts in the light and dark areas to create atmosphere by layering, blending and burnishing the colours.  I used smooth cartridge board to give a velvety soft image.

After exhibiting with the Southend Art Club this portrait was sold and received the Eric Brinklow Award for ‘The Best Drawing’.
